Climbing at Peter Ashley Activity Centres Portsmouth
Climbing at Fort Purbrook takes place in the Cellars, providing a stimulating and safe environment to learn and progress your climbing skills. Accessed via a network of underground tunnels, the Cellars boast two indoor purpose built bouldering rooms.

Always at the top of children’s lists is the challenge of reaching the top of our purpose-built climbing walls. This session is great for developing self-confidence and trust in others. After a thorough safety briefing and tips on effective technique from qualified instructors, young climbers will each get the chance to summit the walls while being encouraged from their peers.

The climbing walls are amongst the most challenging and satisfying of our adventure activities, in terms of individual achievement. Our purpose-built indoor climbing walls provide the ideal opportunity to develop co-ordination, stamina and determination, whilst learning basic climbing skills and techniques.

This is the perfect activity for parties, school groups, work groups and more. If you are a school looking for a different way of bringing your subject alive, we can tailor the sessions to meet your lesson and curriculum objectives.

Climbing is fun, healthy and safe!

The Boulder Room is a total of 700 square feet of quality bouldering underground! Its features include 45 degree panels, two waves, slabs, cracks, arêtes and an eight-foot roof section. This was originally built by Bendcrete in 1992 and has since undergone upgrades and new routes are added frequently.

The Training Room is a total of 700 square feet of climbing area. Its features include a 5 sided 16-foot tower, curved wall, roof sections, chimney and overhangs. Our team of route setters are constantly planning and undertaking new route sets to keep the walls ever interesting.

The Cellars are open to group bookings as well as public access, please call Fort Purbrook on 023 9232 1223 for more details. Our group sessions are fully accessible and can cater for participants with a range of disabilities.
